Indian Style Spicy Beef

Where oh where do the days go? Maybe having two big parties and a wedding this month are to blame...LOL...I don't know?!
This week I'll focus on Indian food which is among my favorite to prepare. And eat.
If you think you don't like Indian food, reconsider. I promise you there are dozens of flavors other than the traditional curries you may have sampled. Take this beef dish for example. The meat is so tender and the yogurt tempers the heat perfectly.
Really, give it a whirl.

1 pound beef round or sirloin, sliced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cups plain, non fat yogurt
3 Tablespoons oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
5 garlic cloves, sliced
1-1/2 teaspoons powdered ginger
2 teaspoons ground corriander
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1-1/2 teaspoons tumeric
1-1/2 teaspoons garam masala
Rice, steamed
Sliced cucumbers

Pound the beef slices between 2 sheets of waxed paper until thin.
Rub salt all over beef and then cut into bite size pieces.
Place into a bowl and cover with yogurt. Cover bowl and refrigerate overnight or at least for several hours.
Next day:
Heat oil in a large saucepan or deep skillet and saute onion & garlic until soft, about 5 minutes.
Add the spices and cook 5 minutes longer. Stir constantly.
Add the beef covered yogurt to the pan and stir to combine thoroughly.
Cover and simmer over low heat for 1-1/2 hrs.
Serve this deliciousness over rice with sliced cucumbers on the side.
Enjoy~!
