Simple Cheese Straws

These cheese straws are an excellent munchie to have on hand for chat time with your girlies and some wine-- or with the kids on game night.
Whenever you serve them, you'll agree that these savory snacks are just right for the occasion.

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups shredded extra sharp Cheddar cheese
3/4 cup margarine
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup water

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease or line a baking sheet with wax paper.
Combine the flour, baking powder, cayenne pepper, garlic salt, grated cheese and butter or margarine in a bowl and mix until well combined. Add water a little bit at a time to make a very stiff dough.
On a lightly floured surface, roll pieces of the dough into just slightly thicker than pencil shaped sticks. Cut sticks into 5 inch lengths. Arrange the pieces on the baking sheet.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes or until browned.

Makes about 36 "straws".
