Tamatar Aloo

This is a savory way to enjoy potatoes and tomatoes together. The tumeric is so flavorful and the fried mustard seeds give just the right "zip" to this recipe. I was able to use tomatoes from our garden and I think that made this dish extra good. Homegrown with love, there's just nothing quite like it!

2 Tablespoons oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 pound potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 teaspoon tumeric
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoon paprika
4 Tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 pound tomatoes, quartered
salt to taste
chopped cilantro, for garnish

Heat the oil in a sauce pan and add the mustard seeds, cook until they "pop" within a minute. Add potatoes and fry for 5 minutes. Add the spices, lemon juice, sugar and salt to taste, stir well and cook for 5 minutes longer.
Add tomatoes, stir well and simmer for 10 minutes--or until the potatoes are fork tender.
Garnish with cilantro.
